Watercolour Art

Welcome to our ART page

Kia Ora everyone.

This term students have been learning about sketching techniques, the colour wheel and watercolour art. We kicked off the term with a sketching lesson from a visiting artist. Students learned sketching techniques. These included setting the limits (or borders) of your sketch, sketching from left to right, back to front, as well as starting with a soft touch on the pencil before moving to the darker, more final outlines of the sketch.

It was quite obvious that students really enjoyed this art lesson so we have made an effort to develop our sketching skills throughout the term. As part of our reading programme we had an activity called 'Art Reading'. We had our own portfolios that we used to record our sketches. We could choose what we wanted to sketch from one of the sketch books in the classroom. We first read the instructions / guide and then 'had a go'. Here are some examples.

Art Attack - Watercolour Art

During week 9 and 10 we had a big focus on art.

We learned about the colour wheel, warm and cool colours, as well as sketching techniques such as cross hatching and smudging. Smudging proved the most popular technique as you we got to get our fingers dirty - all in the name of art.

From this we planned our art piece for our fundraising calander.

We looked at the four seasons and the colours that were associated with each; warm colours for Spring and Summer, and cool colours for Autumn and Winter.

We also focused on drawing trees.

Put this altogether and you get our art creations below. Take a look. We hope you like them as much as we do.
